The Sound of Abundance
For there is a sound of abundance of rain. 1 Kings 18:41b KJV
In 1 Kings 18, we have recorded some of the miraculous occurrences involving Elijah, a powerful prophet of God. The prophet declares in the middle of a drought, to an unbelieving king Ahab, that he hears the sound rain coming! No one else heard that sound. What did Elijah hear? In the spirit, I believe Elijah WAS hearing the sound of a big rain storm. This gave the prophet the confidence he needed to act on what he heard. When Ahab went to eat, Elijah went to pray! So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees. 1 Kings 18:42 KJV
During his prayer time, Elijah kept having his servant go and look toward the sea for evidence of what he was already hearing in his spirit. Elijah kept praying until, on the seventh time of sending his servant to look toward the sea, there was evidence of a small cloud forming. That’s all Elijah needed to spring into further action. Again, in faith, Elijah (through his servant) tells king Ahab that he better get moving or he will be caught in a rain storm! When we hear something God is doing in the spirit, do we take action? Are we even listening to what the Spirit of God is doing? What we hear can also affect what we see.
