The Fuller’s Field
Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-Jashub your son, at the end of the aqueduct from the upper pool, on the highway to the Fuller’s Field, and say to him: ‘Take heed, and be quiet; do not fear or be fainthearted for these two stubs of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and the son of Remaliah.’” Isaiah 7:3-4 NKJV
King Ahaz was in trouble. The enemy was coming! In preparation to defend the city he was inspecting the vulnerability of the fresh water supply. Isaiah found him on the Fuller or Washerman’s road where things were washed, near the upper pool. The prophet also brought with him his son, Shear-Jashub, a name prophesying a future and a hope and literally meant a remnant shall return.
Sooner or later, the enemy will come for us too. May we, with humility, bring our vulnerabilities before the Lord our Deliverer, acknowledging our sin. Then let us be found washing at The Fuller’s Field by the sanctifying water of the Word. Let all our fears be relieved as we drink deeply from the source… our upper “heavenly” pool. Whatever you are facing, know that there is another who prophetically gives you future and a hope. His name is Jesus!
