I saw the Lord

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Isaiah 6:1 NKJV

The death of a loved one can be a topic we wish to avoid. But sooner or later, death touches all of us. It affects each of us differently. There a many of us walking through life with a burden of loss, still carrying around pain or other raw emotions.

For Isaiah the prophet, the loss of King Uzziah brought something unexpected. The prophet saw a vision of the Lord Himself, enthroned on high! His robe gloriously filling the temple. The death of a loved one can open our hearts, like a pry bar, to consider eternal matters. In Isaiah’s case, it opened him up to see the Eternal One. It is encouraging to know that, in the void of Isaiah’s heart, he saw God’s expansiveness. How did the prophet see that expansiveness? In the train of His robe!

If you are struggling with the loss of a loved one today and are carrying around pain, grief, anger, or even unforgiveness, I pray that you will also see the Lord. I hope that you will get caught up in Christ’s robe of righteousness—a robe that He will cover you with. That you will be comforted in the warming folds of His grace and love for you. May the void in the temple of your heart be filled by His ever-present presence.
